Ledbetter Joins L and C Truck Repair as Intern

Ledbetter Joins L and C Truck Repair as Intern

Diesel Technology senior Matt Ledbetter is spending the last semester of this year on the job.  He has been hired as a paid intern at L & C Truck Repair, a full-service truck repair company in the Overland area.

Ledbetter is a Ritenour student who attends his career and technical education program at North Tech in the afternoon.  Until graduation, he is spending 3 weekdays at L & C as part of his training.  Working 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, Ledbetter is earning $10 an hour while learning alongside L & C’s veteran staff.  “The shift leader assigns me to someone when I arrive each day,” said Ledbetter, “I like everything about it!”.  Due to his experience at Tech, the work has been familiar to him and he is enjoying providing a variety of maintenance services to L & C’s customers.  He hopes to go into industry full-time after graduation and is excited to be gaining the experience employers will value.

Company owner Dave Fitzwater is enjoying having Ledbetter on the team.  He serves on North Tech’s Diesel Technology advisory board and realizes the critical shortage of mechanics. Offering the internship is just one more way he supports our students by bringing them into the industry to learn.  “These are good jobs….with the potential for high incomes,” he said.  Fitzwater has been pleased with Ledbetter’s work, saying “Matt is a good kid.  Smart.  He does a good job.”  He confirmed that there is a strong possibility that Ledbetter will be able to continue employment at L & C after graduation.
