Benjamin Roberson Takes Gold Medal at Missouri SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference
North Technical High School junior, Ben Roberson, recently earned a gold medal at the annual Missouri SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference on April 4th, 2019. Ben, currently enrolled in the Web and Computer Programming class, competed in the Employment Application Process contest.
His journey to this gold medal began at the district level of competition which took place this past February. Having earned a gold medal at this level qualified Ben to compete with other Employment Application Process students during state-level contests held at State Technical College in Linn, MO. This contest tests a contestant’s skills in completing a job application, assembling a comprehensive portfolio, and interview skills.
Asked what part of the contest preparation was the most challenging, Ben replied, “Gaining enough confidence in myself was my first hurdle because I needed to work on thinking quick on my feet as well as improving my social skills.” Ben shared that his preparing for this contest and medaling at both the district and state level has helped him to believe in himself and now is more open to taking on future challenges and opportunities as they arise.
The annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky June 24th-June 28th. Once again, Ben will compete in the Employment Application Process Contest, competing with other SkillsUSA students from across the nation.
Congratulations to Ben for this achievement. North Tech SkillsUSA wishes Ben good luck at the national level of competition as he represents, not just North Tech, but the state of Missouri as well.
