February is CTE Month®
Throughout February, organizations nationwide will be celebrating National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®, a campaign aimed at increasing public awareness among educators, parents, students, policymakers, and employers about the value and promise of CTE. At North and South Technical High Schools, our mission is to provide relevant high-quality career and technical instruction to prepare and inspire every student to succeed in college and high-demand careers. We offer programs in several different career pathways, including medical, information technology, advanced manufacturing, transportation, public safety, and human services. Our programs include multiple certification and college credit opportunities while providing students with real-world experiences and skills. Career and Technical Education delivers real options for students pursuing college and rewarding careers as it expands their post-graduation choices. Through classroom learning, field experiences, internships, business and industry partner mentoring, competitions and more, CTE helps connect students to the “why” of their high school experience and enhances its value. CTE allows students to explore careers and find out what inspires them and what doesn’t before they enter college, saving families time and money and leading to informed post-secondary education investments. Advance CTE reports that students in CTE programs and their parents are three times as likely to report they are “very satisfied” with their student’s opportunity to learn real-world skills when compared with parents and students not enrolled in CTE courses. Employers continue to report shortages due to workers not having the skills and experience needed for many high-demand, high-skill careers. Career and technical education helps fill this gap by ensuring more young people graduate with the certifications and credentials employers seek along with the soft skills they value. North and South Tech continue to benefit from significant engagement and investment from regional employers who are building their talent pipelines among our students. Business and industry support connects our students to the world of work and helps them discover careers they feel passionate about while giving them the foundational knowledge they need to excel. North and South Tech High Schools will be featuring program videos and CTE facts that emphasize the value of career and technical education throughout the month on their Facebook and Instagram pages (@northtechstl and @southtechstl).
